Getting involved with community theatre is easier than you think!

Joining our theatre family here at Wasaga Community Theatre means becoming part of a supportive community group that celebrates creativity and collaboration. We welcome everyone, regardless of their experience level or background, and there are numerous opportunities to get involved. Whether you’re drawn to acting, technical work, or front-of-house support, there’s a role waiting for you. Not sure where to start? We have multiple volunteer opportunities and would be happy to provide more information about upcoming performances or opportunities for you to get involved. Whether you want to become more involved in the community, collect volunteer hours for school, or just enjoy interacting with fellow theatre lovers,

There are many ways that you can become involved with Wasaga Community Theatre. From acting to set design to digital media, there is no shortage of opportunities for adults 18 years old and up unless accompanied by a guardian.

Production Design

Help bring our productions to life by creating sets, props, and visual elements that transform the stage and captivate audiences.

Our backstage team is needed during the run dates of our fall production. Set creation, props management, costumes, scene changes, etc.

Production

Production Crew Volunteers

Responsible for overseeing our fall production.
Stage Management, Directing, Producing, prompting, Lighting/ Sound, etc.

Front-of-House-Volunteers

Front of House Volunteers

These volunteers help during the run of our fall productions, but can also be required for smaller WCT events. Ticket sales, 50/50 tickets, lottery calendars, etc.

Costume-and-Styling

Costume and Styling

This team brings characters to life through expertly crafted costumes, hair, and makeup, enhancing the visual storytelling of our productions

Community Engagement

Community engagement tasks for volunteers at Wasaga Community Theatre include helping with marketing efforts, promoting productions through social media, outreach, and assisting in securing sponsorships to support the theatre’s events and initiatives.

 

Marketing and Promotion

Spread the word about our productions, connecting with the community through creative campaigns, social media, website design and community outreach.

Fundraising and Sponsorship

Help sustain our theatre by building partnerships, organizing events, and securing vital resources and sponsors for our theatre and productions.

Communications Committee

Keeps our community informed and connected! This committee oversees the WCT website, email updates, and online promotions, ensuring our audiences know about upcoming shows, auditions, and events. They also collaborate with other arts groups and local businesses to share WCT news far and wide.

Promotion Committee
Brings the spotlight to WCT’s productions and events through interviews, community presentations, radio features, and cast videos. This team coordinates sponsorship opportunities and community outreach to help raise awareness and build excitement around every show.

Fundraising Committee
Discovers and organizes creative ways to raise funds that support WCT’s productions and operations — from 50/50 draws to themed events. This group works closely with the Treasurer to plan and execute fundraising activities that keep our theatre thriving.

Researches and applies for grants to help fund productions, equipment, and programs. This committee prepares applications, manages follow-up reporting, and ensures WCT makes the most of available funding opportunities.

Volunteer Committee
The heart of our community spirit — this team recruits, coordinates, and celebrates the volunteers who make every show possible. They connect volunteers with upcoming events, keep an updated contact list, and organize our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event.

Play Reading Committee
Explores scripts and recommends potential plays for future productions. This committee helps shape WCT’s artistic direction by reading and reviewing plays that align with our theatre’s mission and audience.

Parade Committee

Represents WCT in community parades and celebrations such as the Wasaga Santa Claus Parade or Collingwood Pride Parade. This team helps design floats, organize costumes, and showcase our theatre’s presence in the community.

Interim Production Committee
Manages production logistics before a Producer is officially appointed. This committee secures performance rights, books rehearsal and theatre spaces, and assists in selecting a Director for upcoming shows.

Helps identify and recommend new members for the WCT Board of Directors. This group ensures the election process runs smoothly and encourages a strong, engaged leadership team.

1. Do I need prior theatre experience to volunteer?

Not at all! We welcome volunteers with all levels of experience. Whether you’re new to theatre or a seasoned pro, there’s a place for you here.

2. How much time do I need to commit?

The time commitment varies depending on the role. We’ll work with you to find a schedule that fits your availability.

3. What should I wear when volunteering?

Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. If you’re backstage, dark clothing is recommended during performances.

4. Can I bring a friend to volunteer with me?

Absolutely! We love having groups of friends or family members volunteer together. Just make sure they fill out an application form too.

5. Are there age requirements for volunteers?

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

6. Will I receive training?

Yes! We provide training and orientation to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in your role.

7. Are there any perks to volunteering?

In addition to gaining valuable experience and meeting amazing people, volunteers often receive free or discounted tickets to our shows and invitations to appreciation events.
