In May, members of the Wasaga Community Theatre (WCT) had the chance to highlight the impact of the $12,200 Capital grant they received last summer from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The OTF is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects which aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
Local MPP Brian Saunderson and Debora Bloom Hall, an OTF volunteer, were there to formally congratulate the group on the new technical equipment that was purchased to support live theatre in the area. The project will give people in the community an enhanced experience when attending live programs and WCT productions.
“Enjoying live theatre is an experience unlike any other. It’s often an emotional journey from curtain rise to the final bow,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “As Wasaga Community Theatre has thrilled audiences for over 30 years, I’m excited to see how they leverage their new technology to further enhance the experience for theatre goers. My congratulations and thanks go out to the members, actors, directors and donors who have made this possible.”
New equipment upgrades included the purchase of new sound and lighting equipment, which will allow the theatre to keep up with modern technology and deliver the best theatrical experience for the community. WCT produces one main play in the fall and holds events and workshops throughout the year. Thanks to the OTF, WCT is better equipped to create engaging productions and events for all.
“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the Wasaga Community Theatre deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come.”
Wasaga Community Theatre is dedicated to enriching the lives of the community through the transformative power of live performance. If you wish to inquire about WCT’s upcoming productions, workshops, events, or volunteer opportunities, please reach out to us today.
