Roles & Responsibilities
DIRECTOR
The director leads the creative vision of the Wasaga Community Theatre’s fall production, guiding actors, coordinating with the production team, and overseeing rehearsals to ensure a cohesive and compelling performance.
The director selection is done through resume submission and interview process conducted by the WCT Board members. Watch for Callouts or email us for submissions!
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Schedule and conduct auditions.
- Select the cast and notify applicants.
- Set and share rehearsal dates with the cast.
- Provide a detailed rehearsal schedule, including scene requirements and deadlines.
- Define artistic vision and communicate it to the production team.
- Direct rehearsals and oversee all aspects of the production.
PRODUCER
The producer for the Wasaga Community Theatre fall production manages the logistical and financial aspects of a production, including budgets, scheduling, contracts, and coordination between the cast, crew, and director to ensure the show runs smoothly.
The producer selection is done through resume submission and interview process conducted by the WCT Board members. Watch for submission callouts!
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Oversee all technical, administrative, and financial aspects of the production.
- Prepare and present the budget for Board approval.
- Assemble Production Team Managers
- Arrange audition, rehearsal and performance spaces.
- Coordinate audition/rehearsal details (dates, ads, materials, forms) with the Director
- Advise Marketing Committee on audition/production promotions.
- Organize, coordinate and liaise with the Production Team and Director on rehearsal schedules, technical needs, and resources.
- Order scripts and handle royalty contracts.
- Plan the cast and crew wrap party, ensuring requirements are met.
Stage Manager
Stage Managers are the communication hub for productions, organizing and supporting all teams from rehearsals to performances. They coordinate between creative and technical departments, oversee sets, props, lights, sound, and manage communication with the cast, crew, and front of house to ensure smooth operations.
Responsibilities include but not limited to
- Coordinate all aspects of stage production, including lighting, props, sound, set design, and construction.
- Ensure all elements are ready for the technical rehearsal.
- Arrange workspace and organize set construction and setup.
- Oversee stage crew for scene changes and set dismantling.
- Manage set storage or disposal after performances.
- Cue actors, lighting, and fundraising teams during performances.
- Assist the Director with blocking during rehearsals.
LIGHTING & SOUND DESIGNER/OPERATOR
The Lighting and Sound Designer/Operator oversees all technical aspects of lighting and audio for a production, ensuring they enhance the performance’s mood, atmosphere, and overall experience for the audience.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Collaborate with the Director to determine lighting and sound needs.
- Attend rehearsals to understand technical requirements.
- Acquire, install, and operate lighting and sound equipment for rehearsals and performances.
- Create sound effects and manage music as needed.
- Provide budget estimates and gain approval for major expenses.
- Dismantle and store equipment after the final performance.
Front of House
Front of House Volunteers are the welcoming face of Wasaga Community Theatre, ensuring every guest has a memorable experience from the moment they arrive
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Sell and scan tickets at the entrance.
- Promote and sell 50/50 tickets or lottery calendars to support the theatre.
- Announce and manage member draw winners during events.
- Provide seating guidance and answer patron questions.
- Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
